The Spirit of an army personal is living in this temple.Indian Army built this for Harbhajan Singh of 23 Punjab Regiment.He was an ordinary soldier who died in 1968 while guarding the Kupup post.Years after his death ,he appeared to an officer of his regiment in his dream and told him the exact location where his body was buried under the snow. Indian Army believe that Harbajan Sing's Spirit guards the Indian border from the spot. The army erected a memorial and a mandir at the spot.The soldiers and local people began worshing him.It is believed that Harbhajan's spirit will appear in the dreams of the soldiers of his regiment and tell them about the danger awaiting them three days in advance.
Though died in 1968, Harbhajan Singh was serving IndianArmy ,with due promotions these 36 years.When we visited Baba Mandir on 12th october 2004, he was captain and was on annual leave for two months and is expected to join duty on Nov.15th. His regiment brings his spirit to his native village,Kooka,in Kapurthala district, by army vehicle and train and back to Sikkim. A soldier never dies . He is immortal .
